Meet the chunky chain necklace!

This started trending last spring and continues to go strong. I’ve always loved chain necklaces - bought a multi-layered chain necklace in 2005 that I’ve worn regularly ever since. They just happen to be having a moment now and are super versatile. If you’re spending lots of time on Zoom, this is an easy way to look put together on camera.

Gold chain necklaces with large links like THIS are very hot now, but I’ve seen cool designs in other metallics too. I have a matte silver one (the one from ‘05) and a gold one.

Chokers like this ONE are also cool if you want to go 90s (we love the 90s!).

Some have elaborate chunky clasps or pendants. You can always turn the necklace around to place these at the back of your neck, if they don’t work for your look that day.

The chunky, single layer ones are really in style now, as necklaces and as PURSE STRAPS.

WHY THE LOVE

• They can toughen up a frilly, floral dress (add combat boots and a leather jacket) or add excitement to a plain t-shirt and jeans/sweatpants outfit (same color top and bottom + the necklace + loose neutral colored drop shoulder cardigan)

• They can be edgy or dainty depending on the design, whatever works for you

• Great options at many price points

PRO TIPS

• If you’re going for a multi-layered thin chain necklace, they look great with deep scoop neck tanks and tees. Chokers look great with loose tees and sweaters with deep v-necks.

• Missy Elliott advises pairing a chunky gold chain necklace with an Adidas track suit. I do not.
